Ch 18: CEOE Advanced Math: The Coordinate Graph & Graph Symmetry

About This Chapter

Learn about the coordinate graph and graph symmetry in this chapter of the CEOE Advanced Mathematics exam study guide. Video lessons and self-assessment quizzes teach you about the coordinate graph as you pursue teacher licensure in Oklahoma.

CEOE Advanced Math: The Coordinate Graph & Graph Symmetry - Chapter Summary

Lessons in this chapter explore the coordinate graph and graph symmetry. Watch several video lessons that outline the fundamentals of these topics as you get ready to take the CEOE Advanced Math examination. By the end of this chapter, you should be familiar with:

  • Plotting points
  • Ordered pairs
  • Finding distance
  • Recognizing symmetry about the X-axis and Y-axis, and about the origin
  • Odd and even functions

Knowledgeable instructors walk you through each concept and are available to answer any questions you may have. Short, engaging video lessons are accompanied by transcripts with important terms in bold print. Track your progress through the course by visiting your dashboard.

The Coordinate Graph & Graph Symmetry Chapter Objectives

The CEOE Advanced Mathematics exam measures a student's knowledge of subject matter in accordance with Oklahoma educator licensure regulations. The exam measures mathematical processes and number sense; relations functions, and algebra; measurement and geometry; trigonometry and calculus; and probability, statistics, and discrete mathematics. The material covered in this Coordinate Graph and Graph Symmetry chapter is tested in the measurement and geometry portion of the CEOE exam, which comprises about 18% of the entire test. The exam includes approximately 80 multiple-choice questions and one open-response question.

Plotting Points on the Coordinate Plane

1. Plotting Points on the Coordinate Plane

If you'll be working with a graph, otherwise known as the coordinate plane, it's essential to understand how it works. This includes learning the parts of a graph, identifying points and plotting points.

Ordered Pairs on the Coordinate Plane

2. Ordered Pairs on the Coordinate Plane

In this video lesson, you will see how points are plotted on the coordinate plane. Learn the proper way to identify points on the coordinate plane and how to read the points.

How to Find the Distance Between Two Points

3. How to Find the Distance Between Two Points

After watching this video lesson, you will be able to find the distance between any two points on the coordinate plane. Learn what information you and how to plug them in to your formula.

Recognizing Symmetry Graphically, Algebraically, and Numerically About the X-axis and Y-axis

4. Recognizing Symmetry Graphically, Algebraically, and Numerically About the X-axis and Y-axis

When you fold a piece of paper exactly in half, you are creating symmetry. Symmetry is found in many areas of mathematics. In this lesson, learn to recognize symmetry graphically, algebraically, and numerically about the x- and y- axes.

Recognizing Symmetry Graphically, Algebraically & Numerically About the Origin

5. Recognizing Symmetry Graphically, Algebraically & Numerically About the Origin

If you look at flowers and fruits, you'll see that many of these items in nature are symmetrical. In this lesson, learn about symmetry about the origin of a graph. When you are finished, test your knowledge with a short quiz!

Even & Odd Functions: Definition & Examples

6. Even & Odd Functions: Definition & Examples

Even and odd functions are an aspect of line symmetry. You can use knowledge of even and odd functions to quickly identify equation symmetry. After this lesson, test your knowledge with a short quiz!
