Who's it for?
This unit of our High School Physics Homeschool course will benefit any student who is trying to learn about gravitational laws and definitions. There is no faster or easier way to learn about physics. Among those who would benefit are:
- Students who require an efficient, self-paced course of study to learn to apply Newton's law of universal gravitation.

1. Uniform Circular Motion: Definition & Mathematics
After watching this lesson, you will be able to explain what uniform circular motion is, in terms of both acceleration and forces. You will also be able to use equations for centripetal force and acceleration to solve problems. A short quiz will follow.
2. Speed and Velocity: Concepts and Formulas
Did you know that an object's speed and velocity may not be the same? This lesson describes the concepts of speed and velocity relating to objects in motion. We'll look at a specific example to help learn how to calculate both speed and velocity.
3. What is Acceleration? - Definition and Formula
This lesson describes the difference between speed, velocity and acceleration. Examples are used to help you understand the concept of acceleration and learn to calculate acceleration with a mathematical formula.
4. Equilibrium: Chemical and Dynamic
Learn the definition of chemical equilibrium and how it is dynamic. Discover what the equilibrium constant is and how it shows whether the reaction favors the reactants or products. Learn how chemists designate equilibrium in an equation and how they show the difference in reaction rate.
5. Kepler's Three Laws of Planetary Motion
Find out about the interesting life and major contributions of Johannes Kepler. This lesson will also teach you how to find out how long it takes a planet to revolve around the sun!
6. Newton's Law of Gravitation: Definition & Examples
This lesson explains how gravity works mathematically and teaches you how to use Newton's Law of Gravitation to solve problems. A short quiz will follow.
7. Centripetal Force: Definition, Examples & Problems
After watching this video, you should be able to explain what centripetal force is, identify the centripetal force in a particular situation, and solve problems using the centripetal force equation. A short quiz will follow.
8. Gravitational Attraction of Extended Bodies
After watching this lesson, you will be able to explain what an extended body is, understand the derivation for the force of gravity between a point charge and a long, thin bar and solve problems using the result of that derivation.
9. Gravitational Potential Energy: Definition, Formula & Examples
In this lesson, you will learn what gravitational potential is, the equation we use to calculate it, and how to use that equation. We'll look at some real-life examples so you can see how it works. A short quiz will follow.
10. Work as an Integral
After watching this video, you will be able to solve calculus problems involving work and explain how that relates to the area under a force-displacement graph. A short quiz will follow.
11. Elliptical Orbits: Periods & Speeds
After watching this lesson, you will be able to explain what an elliptical orbit is and calculate the period and speed of an object in an elliptical orbit, if given enough information. A short quiz will follow.
12. Eccentricity & Orbits of Planets
After watching this lesson, you should be able to explain what eccentricity is and calculate the eccentricity of an orbit given relevant distance measurements. A short quiz will follow.
13. Objects Moving in Vertical Circles: Analysis & Practice Problems
After watching this video, you will be able to describe motion of an object moving in a vertical circle and derive and use equations for this motion in problem solving. A short quiz will follow.
