Clinical Intervention and Monitoring - Chapter Summary
In this chapter, our instructors explain what medical nutrition therapy is and when and how it should be used. You will learn strategies for maintaining a healthy weight, medical approaches to weight loss, the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease and dietary treatment of hypertension.
You'll learn about dietary interventions for type 2 diabetes, endocrine and other hormonal conditions and autoimmune diseases. As you progress through this chapter you can study dietary approaches to treating common gastrointestinal disorders, lactose intolerance, anemia and osteoporosis and more. After completing this chapter, you should be able to:

6. Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH)
DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. You can follow the DASH diet to decrease your blood pressure and lower your risk of heart disease and stroke. Learn which foods are part of the DASH diet and how much of each food to consume.
7. Type 2 Diabetes: Risk Factors, Signs & Treatment

Disaccharides are a class of sugar created by the combination of two monosaccharides. The three major disaccharides in your diet are maltose, sucrose, and lactose. In this lesson, you will learn about these disaccharides and a common digestive system disorder called lactose intolerance.
12. Anemia: Types and Causes
Your red blood cells have a unique design that differentiates them from all other cells. This unique design makes them exceptional oxygen carriers. But if this ability to carry oxygen is compromised, the result is a form of anemia, such as pernicious anemia, aplastic anemia or sickle cell anemia.
13. What is Osteoporosis? - Definition, Causes & Treatment
Osteoporosis affects more than ten million people and causes more than one million fractures in the United States alone. Everyone is at risk for osteoporosis, but women are especially vulnerable. 19. Food Allergies & Intolerances: Differences & Treatments
