Communication in the Workplace - Chapter Summary and Learning Objectives
It would be difficult to manage a team without being able to communicate with them, right? Whether you're giving instructions or praise, managers need to know how to communicate. In these lessons, you'll learn about different methods and types of workplace communication.
You'll be introduced to the idea of managerial communication and the role that it plays for managers, including the various ways it can facilitate different functions in the office. Additionally, foundational information about the communication process is provided. Definitions are also given for related vocabulary words, including sender, receiver, channel, encoding, decoding, noise, and feedback.
The different types of communication that managers can use, including methods like interpersonal, nonverbal, written, and oral communication, are also discussed. You will also become familiar with the role that communication can play within an organization. Vocabulary words you'll learn that relate to organizational communication include downward, upward, and horizontal communication, as well as terms like formal network and informal channel.
Finally, these lessons cover perception and bias in organizational communications. As we all know, the things we say can get misconstrued or misinterpreted, and this is important for managers to avoid. The lesson on perception and bias in the communication process covers things like projections, self-serving bias, fundamental attribution error, selective perception, the halo effect, and stereotyping.

Some conflicts simply cannot be resolved by those involved in the dispute. This lesson will explain the use of third-party interventions to help disputants resolve conflict they could not solve on their own.
7. Perception, Bias & Interpreting Behavior
