# Ch 34: CUNY Assessment Test in Math: Trigonometric Graphs

### About This Chapter

## CUNY Assessment Test in Math: Trigonometric Graphs - Chapter Summary

This chapter of our study guide offers a review of trigonometric graphs to help you prepare for CUNY Assessment Test in Math questions. Our video lessons, quizzes and other study tools guide you through topics including:

- How to graph sine and cosine transformations
- Ways to graph the tangent function
- Methods of graphing the cosecant, secant and cotangent functions
- How graphs can determine trigonometric identity
- How to graphically solve a trigonometric equation

You can watch these video lessons as your schedule allows, on a computer, smartphone or tablet. Each is followed by a short quiz. If you answer a question incorrectly, use the links in the answer key to return to that part of the lesson for review. There are text transcripts that highlight key terms and concepts, and you can print out the quiz questions for offline study.

### CUNY Assessment Test in Math: Trigonometric Graphs Chapter Objectives

CUNY has newly admitted students have their math knowledge evaluated through the Assessment Test in Math. Results are used for course placement. The test is divided into four sections, including one on trigonometry that may have questions related to this chapter.

The test is computer delivered, and all questions are multiple choice, requiring you to solve a problem and select the right answer from several options. The quizzes and the chapter exam in this study guide are in the same format and provide experience in answering these types of questions before test day. They also can indicate areas in which you need more study.

### 1. Graphing Sine and Cosine Transformations

What happens when we take the sine and cosine wave and transform them? They get bigger, smaller, faster and slower. Find out how in this lesson on sine and cosine wave transformations.

### 2. Graphing the Tangent Function: Amplitude, Period, Phase Shift & Vertical Shift

Take a look at how the graph of a tangent function and how we can transform it by making a few small changes to its equation. This video shows how to graph the original function and explains its transformations.

### 3. Graphing the Cosecant, Secant & Cotangent Functions

After watching this video lesson, you will learn what the graphs of the cosecant, secant, and cotangent trigonometric functions look like. You will also learn how to see if these graphs are shifted or transformed.

### 4. Using Graphs to Determine Trigonometric Identity

After watching this video lesson, you will be able to use graphs to determine whether an equation is a trigonometric identity or not. Learn what you need to look for to determine this.

### 5. Solving a Trigonometric Equation Graphically

How can you show someone that you have the right answer? This video lesson will show you how you can do this for a trigonometric equation. Learn what you need to watch for and how to get your answers.
