Electricity Basics - Chapter Summary
Our instructors make electricity simple to understand, including circuits, current and conductors. An important topic related to electricity is safety, and additional lessons cover the ways you can ensure your own and others' safety around electricity. You'll also learn about series circuits and how their use can make light bulbs brighter or dimmer. This chapter prepares you to do the following:
- Explain how electricity and current are related
- Describe how circuit components work
- Discuss the ways you can tell a short circuit is happening
Our fun lessons outline all the topics you need to know in an easy-to-follow way. The multiple-choice quizzes in this chapter can be used to gauge your knowledge ahead of a test or to see which topics you need to study further. An instructor can answer any additional questions you have if you get stuck on the lessons.
1. Electric Current Lesson for Kids

In this lesson, we'll explore the parts of a circuit. You'll learn how you can make changes in the parts of a circuit, called components, and the effect those changes will have on the circuit.
4. Series Circuit Lesson for Kids
In this lesson, you'll learn about a special kind of electrical circuit called a series circuit. Continue on to find out what makes up a series circuit, how it works, and some problems with these circuits.
5. Short Circuits: Lesson for Kids
Electricity is important to your everyday life, since it powers many of the items around you. It can also be extremely dangerous if you're not careful. In this lesson, you will learn about short circuits, their causes, and ways to safely avoid them.
