Have you ever worked for a company that never offered bonuses, never did anything to make you feel like a valued employee, yet pushed you very hard to accomplish more work than you could possible handle? Maybe you have worked for a company that offered wonderful incentives, valued your work and monitored your workload to ensure it wasn't too much to handle. If you were stuck in the first job, chances are you would not feel too motivated to get your work done or do a good job. However, if you had the second job, you would likely want to accomplish great things and push to do your best at all times. These two examples showcase the main idea of this chapter - employee motivation. You will learn about different theories and studies that have been done regarding how to motivate employees.
