About This Chapter

Follow along as we discuss reproduction and development to prepare you for the FTCE Biology Grades 6-12 exam. These video lessons can help you gain a deeper understanding of embryo plantation, the placenta and other related topics, and the available quizzes can evaluate your level of knowledge.

Reproduction & Development - Chapter Summary

In the video lessons from this chapter, discover the full-length process involved in reproduction, from the early development of embryos all the way through birth. Furthermore, learn about how all living embryos have what's commonly referred to as Spemann's Organizer, which is named after the scientist who discovered how embryonic cells organize themselves and develop. There are many scientific terms and processes to learn when studying reproduction and development, and this chapter will help you get ready for answering related questions on the FTCE Biology Grades 6-12 exam. After you finish this chapter, you should be able to identify the following:

  • The cleavage process of zygotes
  • Embryo implantation
  • Placenta nutrients and blood flow
  • The contents of amniotic fluid
  • The major axes of the body
  • Signaling molecules
  • Gradient formation

Watching the engaging video lessons within this chapter gives you a brief but thorough review of reproduction and development topics before you take the exam. Each lesson comes equipped with a thorough transcript full of bolded key terms that will help you learn important science vocabulary words and concepts. You can also gauge how well you might do on the FTCE by taking our lesson quizzes and chapter exams.

FTCE Biology: Reproduction & Development Objectives

In the state of Florida, teachers are required to take these exams to prove their knowledge the subjects they want to teach, such as biology. This subject-specific exam has 120 multiple-choice questions, and we want you to use our video lessons and materials to make sure you are as prepared as possible to pass this exam.

The lessons in this chapter can help you make the right choices as you answer related questions. According to the FTCE information guide, 7% of the questions will ask about the structure and functions of different cells, such as those involved in reproduction. Also, at least 11% of the questions cover topics related to the principles and properties of genetics, and those questions are closely tied to the topics discussed in the video lessons within this chapter.
