# Ch 12: FTCE: Geometry and Spatial Sense

Let us show you how to improve your geometry and spatial sense skills. The video lessons and self-assessment quizzes in this chapter provide several approaches to help you pass the mathematics portion of the FTCE General Knowledge Test.

## FTCE: Geometry and Spatial Sense - Chapter Summary

You can refresh your knowledge of geometry and spatial sense, which are covered in the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations (FTCE) General Knowledge Test, with these video lessons. These lessons can teach you to identify various two- and three-dimensional figures and classify them according to their properties. You'll also learn to employ various mathematical relationships and formulas to solve real-world problems. By the end of this chapter, you should understand the following:

• Properties of various shapes, including triangles, circles, rectangles, trapezoids and polygons
• Properties of congruent and similar shapes
• Properties of simple three-dimensional figures
• Real-world and mathematical problem solving with ratios and proportions
• Application of the Pythagorean Theorem
• Parts of a graph and shifting graphs on a plane
• Midpoint and distance formulas

### Objectives of the FTCE: Geometry and Spatial Sense Chapter

Public school teachers in Florida must be certified, and one step in the certification process is passing the FTCE General Knowledge Test. This four-part exam gauges your skills in mathematics, reading, English and writing. The math subtest is presented in a multiple-choice format, and test takers have 100 minutes to complete 45 questions. Approximately nine of these questions focus on geometry and spatial sense. Your testing center will provide you with a four-function calculator to use for this subtest.

If it's been a while since you've tested your knowledge of geometry and spatial sense, you might start by taking the self-assessment quizzes that accompany each video lesson. Then, watch the videos, paying special attention to areas where you struggled on the quizzes. Retaking the self-assessments can show you how much your skills have improved, which could provide a boost of confidence heading into the FTCE.
