GACE Middle Grades Math: Simplifying Expressions - Chapter Summary

The lessons in this chapter provide instruction on how to make mathematical expressions easier to handle through the process of simplification. Knowing how to simplify expressions can help you solve problems a little faster, which may prove vital on a timed test such as the GACE Middle Grades Math assessment. This chapter has been designed to teach you how to simplify the following:

  • Subtraction expressions
  • Multiplication expressions
  • Addition expressions
  • Division expressions
  • Expressions with exponents or parentheses

All of our lessons come equipped with a video component as well as a text-based component. You can choose just to watch the videos, or you can simply read the transcripts although doing both may provide the best results. If you are familiar with some of the topics but not all of them, you can always click the video tags to jump around to the areas in which you need more help. Don't forget that you can practice for the GACE Middle Grades Math assessment by taking the quizzes or the chapter exam.

GACE Middle Grades Math: Simplifying Expressions Objectives

To complete the mathematics educator certification process in Georgia, individuals must pass the GACE Middle Grades Math assessment. Administered by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC), the point of this test is to ensure that all educators are skilled and knowledgeable within their fields of expertise, which in this case is middle-grades mathematics.

Test-takers have two hours to complete 45 selected-response questions, and the entire test is taken on a computer. One of the objectives of the test is to verify that educators know how to apply their understanding of mathematical operations and numbers. By using the study materials in this chapter, you should be able to demonstrate your understanding of mathematical operations through your ability to simplify expressions.
