Earth Science & Geologic Time - Chapter Summary

HiSET Science Objectives
The HiSET is a high school equivalency exam offered in several states. It has five subtests, including science. Questions about earth science and geologic time make up 21% of the HiSET Science subtest's 50 multiple-choice questions. Test takers are given up to 80 minutes to finish this subtest. 5. Resources and Reserves: Definitions & Examples
You might hear a lot about reserves and resources on Earth, but what exactly is the difference between the two? In this video lesson, you will learn about each, as well as how they represent different things that are quite related to each other.
6. Renewable & Non-Renewable Resources: Definition & Differences
We use a variety of Earth's resources, but not all of them will be around forever. This lesson explains the difference between resources that can be regenerated for our use and those that are gone after they are used once.
7. Geologic Time Scale: Major Eons, Eras, Periods and Epochs

9. Methods of Geological Dating: Numerical and Relative Dating
Learn how scientists determine the ages of rocks and fossils. We'll explore both relative and numerical dating on our quest to understand the process of geological dating. Along the way, we'll learn how stratigraphic succession and radioactive decay contribute to the work of paleontologists.
10. What is Relative Dating? - Law of Superposition, Principles of Original Horizontality & Cross-Cutting Relationships
Discover how geologists study the layers in sedimentary rock to establish relative age. Learn how inclusions and unconformities can tell us stories about the geologic past. We'll even visit the Grand Canyon to solve the mystery of the Great Unconformity!
11. Principles of Radiometric Dating
Radiometric dating is a method used to determine the age of rocks and other materials based on the rate of radioactive decay. Learn about three common types of radioactive decay: alpha decay, beta decay and gamma decay.
