1. Development of the Mass Media & Journalism in the United States: History & Timeline
The mass media includes print media, broadcast media, social media and other types of communication. This lesson explores the development of the mass media in the United States and its role in the American political process.
2. Cultural & Intellectual Trends Between WWI & WWII
In this lesson, we will explore the cultural and intellectual trends during the interwar period. Specifically, we will focus on the role of mass communication, as well as social and artistic trends during this time.
3. World War II Propaganda: Radio & Film
In this lesson, you will learn about the way that the axis powers and allies used radio and film to make propaganda during WWII. First, you will learn about some of the most infamous radio propaganda, and then you will learn about the ways that film was used.
4. Mass Media in the U.S. in the 1950s
The ways in which people got information changed dramatically during the 1950s. While no technology would be completely doomed, this lesson shows how the seeds were planted for a revolution in media in the decades to come.
5. The Role of Social & Cultural Views in Media
In this lesson we identity the three results of media messages on society: public participation, engagement, democracy. We examine one media form, the Internet, against multiple traditional forms of text which range from books to magazines, or newspapers.
6. What is Media Literacy? - Definition, Importance & Examples
In this lesson, we will explore the role and purpose of media literacy in society in history and today. Examples of media, mass media communications and media literacy will be explained and evaluated in order to form an understanding of why media literacy is critically important for the 21st century.
