Ch 27: Mathematical Sequences: Homeschool Curriculum

About This Chapter

The Mathematical Sequences unit of this High School Precalculus Homeschool course is designed to help homeschooled students learn to use mathematical sequences. Parents can use the short videos to introduce topics, break up lessons and keep students engaged.

Who's it for?

This unit of our High School Precalculus Homeschool course will benefit any student who is trying to learn about mathematical sequences and series. There is no faster or easier way to learn about mathematics. Among those who would benefit are:

  • Students who require an efficient, self-paced course of study to learn how to use summation notation and work with geometric sequences.
  • Homeschool parents looking to spend less time preparing lessons and more time teaching.
  • Homeschool parents who need a mathematics curriculum that appeals to multiple learning types (visual or auditory).
  • Gifted students and students with learning differences.

How it works:

  • Students watch a short, fun video lesson that covers a specific unit topic.
  • Students and parents can refer to the video transcripts to reinforce learning.
  • Short quizzes and a Mathematical Sequences unit exam confirm understanding or identify any topics that require review.

Mathematical Sequences Unit Objectives:

  • Define and classify arithmetic sequences.
  • Learn to use the general term of an arithmetic sequence.
  • Provide an example of how to use factorial notation.
  • Learn to use the formula for infinite geometric series.
  • Define mathematical induction.
  • Discover the value of an annuity.
  • Learn how to use recursive rules for algebraic sequences.

Summation Notation and Mathematical Series

4. Summation Notation and Mathematical Series

The capital Greek letter sigma might be most recognizable as a common symbol in a fraternity or sorority, but it's used for some pretty cool math tricks too. In this lesson, learn how to use sigma for things like determining how many seats are in Michigan Stadium.

How to Use Series and Summation Notation: Process and Examples

5. How to Use Series and Summation Notation: Process and Examples
