# Ch 46: MTEL Math: Analytic Geometry & Conic Sections

With the lessons of this chapter, improve your understanding of the procedures used to find the properties of ellipses, circles, hyperbolas and parabolas as you prepare for the MTEL Mathematics exam.

## MTEL Math: Analytic Geometry & Conic Sections - Chapter Summary

This chapter is composed of a series of engaging lesson videos that explain the mathematical processes necessary to calculate the properties of conic sections. Strengthen your knowledge in preparation for the MTEL Mathematics exam. After reviewing these lessons, you should have a better understanding of how to:

• Define and graph ellipses
• Use the distance formula to calculate the properties of conic sections
• Find the vertices and foci of a hyperbola
• Write equations for standard form ellipses, parabolas and hyperbolas
• Graph parabolas
• Complete questions on analytic geometry and conic sections

Take advantage of the versatility of these lessons and watch them on your Internet-ready mobile devices when you are away from your computer. Then, take the lessons quizzes to discover any of the topics you don't understand. Following these short assessments, return to and re-study the parts of the lessons that explained the topics you missed with the video tags.

### MTEL Math: Analytic Geometry & Conic Sections Chapter Objectives

Math teacher candidates of Massachusetts take the Massachusetts Test for Educator Licensure (MTEL) Mathematics exam to demonstrate their mathematical skills and knowledge and become certified math teachers. To complete this computer-based exam you must answer 100 multiple-choice questions and two open-response assignments in a four-hour testing session. Nineteen percent of this exam is composed of multiple-choice questions about geometry and measurement, including some on analytical geometry and conic sections.
