Use this chapter to help you master basic arithmetic operations. Its educational video lessons can be watched at your convenience while you prepare to pass the MTEL Math examination and earn a teaching certification.

MTEL Math: Basic Arithmetic Operations - Chapter Summary

Plan to ace the MTEL Math examination by ensuring that you thoroughly understand basic arithmetic operations. Composed of a group of video lessons, this chapter emphasizes the topic in detail. You could recall how to recognize the characteristics of real numbers, improve your ability to add, multiply, divide and subtract integers, and re-discover how to solve problems with inequalities. Review the topics in this chapter so that you can:

  • List various kinds of numbers, along with the properties of real numbers
  • Solve problems using the order of operations
  • Understand the order of real numbers
  • Work with signed numbers

The chapter includes transcripts of all of the information that's presented in the animated videos. Get the facts about basic arithmetic operations from educators who have the experience and knowledge needed to develop the lessons, narrate the videos and answer your submitted questions. You can take pop-up quizzes along the way as you prepare for the MTEL Math assessment. At the end of the chapter, take a practice examination.

MTEL Math: Basic Arithmetic Operations Chapter Objectives

With approximately 12% of the overall test weighting, the Number Sense and Operations section of the MTEL Math examination will assess your ability to perform basic arithmetic operations. This section is the first of five multiple-choice subareas, and it includes a range of one to three objectives along with 14 to 16 multiple-choice items.

Take the test by computer and apply what you've learned throughout your educational journey when answering the 100 multiple-choice questions and two open-response assignments that span all subareas. Finish in under four hours and earn the required minimum score of 240, and you could qualify for a mathematics teaching license.
