### MTEL Math: Origins of Math - Chapter Objectives

As a step towards acquiring your license to teach mathematics courses in Massachusetts, the MTEL Math exam assesses your knowledge of various aspects of math. The test is comprised of 100 multiple-choice questions and 2 open-response items, all spread over several different content categories. On the exam, 14-16 of the multiple-choice questions focus on your knowledge of numbers and operations, including the origins of math and algorithms.

Reviewing the content of these lessons should develop your understanding of significant aspects of the origins and development of math to help prepare you for any related questions the exam may ask you. ### 2. Euclid, Archimedes & Ptolemy: Alexandrian Hellenistic Philosophers

This lecture recounts the achievements of the many great minds that called Alexandria home. We will look at Euclid, Ptolemy, Archimedes, Aristarchus, Herophilos, Erasistratus and Eratosthenes.
