The MTEL Mathematics/Science (Middle School) assessment is used to help educators fulfill their goal of teaching math and science to middle school students in Massachusetts. Earning a passing score of 240 or higher can give you the teacher licensure you need. This chapter prepares you for the test by reviewing topics covered in the data analysis, statistics and probability subarea of the test, which is found in the multiple-choice section and constitutes about 6% of the total test.

The test consists of 100 multiple-choice questions and two open-response assignments. After reviewing the lessons in this chapter, use the self-assessment quizzes to get practice with questions similar in format and content to those on the test.
