MTEL Reading Specialist: English Language Learners Chapter Objectives

In Massachusetts, passing the MTEL Reading Specialist exam is one of the state's requirements for licensure in this field. The test consists of 100 multiple-choice questions, divided by content into four subareas, and two essay questions that can be about any of the test content. Questions on teaching English language learners are in the subarea on Reading Instruction, which accounts for about 16% of the test's total content.
