# Ch 7: NMTA Essential Academic Skills Math: Mathematical Logic

New Mexico now uses the National Evaluation Series (NES) tests in place of the NMTAs. Discover how to apply mathematical logic as you view the lessons in this chapter. Study these materials closely as you get ready for the NES Mathematics test.

## NMTA Essential Academic Skills Math: Mathematical Logic - Chapter Summary

While math is partly about plugging numbers into equations, it's also about understanding how the equations work. Find out more about mathematical logic by watching the lessons in this chapter. Determine the best way to answer related questions on the NES Mathematics test as you examine the following key concepts:

• Critical thinking strategies
• Truth values and truth tables
• Logical equivalence
• Conditional statements
• Logical fallacies

The video lessons in each chapter have been assembled in a way that builds your knowledge base about any given topic from the ground up. As you watch each lesson in order, concepts should become clearer. Reading lesson transcripts and going over the definitions of bolded keywords can also help you expand your knowledge base. If you have questions or need more assistance, instructors are available. You can even use our lesson quizzes and chapter exam as practice to get ready for the NES Mathematics test.

### NMTA Essential Academic Skills Math: Mathematical Logic Chapter Objectives

Math educators pursuing licensure in New Mexico will have about 4.25 hours to answer 150 multiple-choice questions on the NES Mathematics test. The test has been divided into five field-specific domains. Questions in the first domain, mathematical processes and number sense, will most likely verify how well someone understands mathematical logic. However, understanding mathematical logic means knowing how to use the principles of math to solve all types of equations, so you will probably need a strong understanding of mathematical logic to answer questions throughout all five domains of this test.
