Ch 24: NMTA Middle Grades Math: Factoring

About This Chapter

New Mexico has replaced the NMTA exam with the National Evaluation Series (NES) Middle Grades Math exam, which has questions on factoring. Our comprehensive study guide features a chapter exploring factoring concepts through engaging video lessons. Our fun video lessons can be watched anywhere and anytime.

NMTA Middle Grades Math: Factoring - Chapter Summary

Factoring is an important idea in algebra. This chapter will explore the definition of factoring and its notation. After you have completed this chapter, you will be ready to answer questions on the exam covering:

  • Fraction notation and equivalent expressions
  • Factoring out variables
  • Combining numbers and variables
  • Factoring and division
  • Factoring and grouping
  • Whole numbers relationship to arithmetic
  • Finding factors and finding multiples of whole numbers

Each time you finish one of our quick video lessons, practice your memory and comprehension with our practice quizzes. These quizzes have a similar format to questions on the NES exam and will help you practice your test taking strategies.

Objectives of the NMTA Middle Grades Math: Factoring Chapter

The Middle Grades Math exam is designed to gauge your comprehension of common math concepts that you'll be teaching to middle school students and is part of the licensure process in New Mexico. Your upcoming test has four domains: number sense and operations, algebra and functions, measurement and geometry, and statistics, probability, and discrete mathematics. This chapter relates to the algebra and functions domain, which asks about 33% of the 150 multiple-choice questions. The test is four hours and 15 minutes long. It is also computer based.
