The videos include real-world examples and graphics in order to present the material in a fun way. The included self-assessment quizzes and chapter test can also help you practice what you learned.

### ORELA Middle Grades Math: Perimeter & Area Chapter Objectives

The state of Oregon has now switched from the ORELA Middle Grades Math examination to a National Evaluation Series test for this subject area. The examination is used to assess the skills of those wishing to teach basic math to middle school students.

The Middle Grades Math exam is a computer-based test that includes 150 multiple-choice questions. The questions come from four main content areas: number sense and operations; algebra and functions; measurement and geometry; and statistics, probability and discrete mathematics. Perimeter and area are covered within the measurement and geometry content area, which makes up 25% of the test questions. Specifically, the questions may ask you to calculate or estimate the perimeter or area of a shape. You are allotted four hours and fifteen minutes to complete the exam, and you must earn a score of 225 or higher to pass.

### 1. What is Perimeter? - Definition & Formula

In mathematics, the perimeter is the distance around a two-dimensional shape. The formula for finding the perimeter of certain shapes will be discussed in this lesson, and there will be some examples to help you understand how to calculate the perimeter.

### 2. Perimeter of Triangles and Rectangles

Without realizing it, we calculate and use the perimeter of triangles and rectangles in regular everyday situations. Learn more about the perimeter of triangles and rectangles in this lesson, and test your knowledge with a quiz.

### 3. Area: Definition & Counting Method

Watch this video lesson to learn what area is and how you can count to find the area of certain shapes. You will see how you can use blocks to help you visualize the problem and find your answer.

### 4. Measuring the Area of a Parallelogram: Formula & Examples

Watch this video lesson to learn the simple formula to find the area of a parallelogram. Learn what measurements you need, how to label your parallelogram, and how to use the formula.

### 5. Measuring the Area of a Rhombus: Formula & Examples

Did you know that there are three ways to find the area of a rhombus? Watch this video lesson to learn all three of them. See what information you need for each method as well as the steps required for each.

### 6. Measuring the Area of a Rectangle: Formula & Examples

Look around you, and you see rectangles all over the place. And if you see paint, carpet, or anything that covers a rectangular area, you can be sure that someone has measured the area of the rectangle. Watch this video lesson to learn more.

### 7. Measuring the Area of a Trapezoid

In this video lesson, you will watch and learn how you can find the area of trapezoid. Learn what measurements you need to have on hand as well as the formula that you need to use.

### 8. Area of Triangles and Rectangles

How do you find out the area of rectangles and triangles? Learn how in this lesson! We'll look at the formulas, then practice solving problems for each shape.
