ORELA Middle Grades Math: Scientific Notation Chapter Objectives

The ORELA Middle Grades Mathematics exam is one of several subject matter tests available to educators seeking licensure in the Oregon public school system. The test is proctored over 4 hours and 15 minutes, is entirely computer based, and includes 150 multiple-choice questions. You will have an on-screen calculator to use when needed, but you cannot take any personal notes or digital devices into the testing area.

The material in this chapter will fall principally in the Number Sense and Operations content domain, which includes competencies 0001 and 0002 and accounts for 17% of the overall test content. We have designed these lessons to help you get relevant, useful, and memorable review on the topic of scientific notation. The idea is to boost your competencies so you can to get your best-possible score. To pass, you will need to get a 225 on the 100-300 score scale. You will be given your scaled score immediately after the test, but the two official score reports will take about two weeks to arrive.
