ORELA Middle Grades Math: Solving Math Word Problems Objectives

The state of Oregon uses the ORELA Middle Grades Math licensure exam to assess the skills of those seeking an endorsement for teaching basic math to middle school students. You are allotted four hours and fifteen minutes to complete the exam, and you must earn a score of 225 of higher to pass.

The ORELA Middle Grades Math exam is a computer-based test. The 150 multiple-choice test questions come from four content areas: number sense and operations; algebra and functions; measurement and geometry; and statistics, probability and discrete mathematics. Word and story problems may be encountered within any of these areas. Use the lessons in this chapter to review the steps for understanding and solving different types of word problems.
