About This Chapter

Let us teach you how to use proper safety procedures when conducting scientific experiments. The video lessons and self-assessment quizzes give you methods that can help you approach these questions on the Praxis II Biology and General Science test.

Praxis Biology and General Science: Science Safety - Chapter Summary

Use the lessons in this chapter to learn about science safety in preparation for the Praxis II Biology and General Science test. Lessons explore the following concepts to assist you in studying for the questions on the test:

  • Using chemistry lab equipment
  • Preparing molarity and percent solutions
  • Safely using acids and bases
  • Dealing with flammable or caustic chemicals
  • Handling biological specimens and waste
  • Recognizing the safety equipment in a lab
  • Comprehending MSDS/OSHA labels on equipment and supplies
  • Practicing chromatography, distillation, filtration and other separation methods
  • Understanding chemistry equipment like balances, stirrers and burners

Experienced instructors guide you through each video lesson, and self-assessment quizzes are provided to gauge your understanding. Lesson summaries and links to key terms can assist you in preparing for the Praxis II Biology and General Science test.

Praxis Biology and General Science: Science Safety Objectives

The Praxis II Biology and General Science test attempts to assess your readiness to teach biology and/or general science at the secondary school level. Laboratory safety methods are contained in the chemistry section of the test, which accounts for about 10% of the total exam. The quizzes included with each lesson contain questions that resemble the actual problems you'll see on the Praxis II test.

The test consists of 120 multiple-choice questions, which must be finished in two hours. The problems on the Praxis II exam will test your recognition of science terms, principles and laws. You'll also need to apply these concepts to situational problems. Other questions involve hypothetical laboratory and field experiences.
