About This Chapter
Praxis I Math: Right Triangles and Trigonometry
The collection of lessons in this chapter are designed to help you learn about geometry and measurement as they relate to trigonometry and right triangles. Topics that you'll learn while preparing for the Praxis I test include:
- Properties of right triangles
- The Pythagorean Theorem
- Basic trig identities
- Sine and cosine
- Trigonometric equations solved for X
As they show you how the information you learn can best be applied on the Praxis, your video instructors will also make sure to fully explain each lesson topic. You'll find that different learning approaches might help lessons remain interesting in addition to better preparing you for the skills exam.
Praxis I Math: Right Triangles and Trigonometry Objectives
The Praxis I Math test is intended to measure the individual's ability to solve problems and reason in a quantitative context as well as measure the mathematical ideas and skills that an adult with a degree might need.
Every video lesson is created to help you with the geometry and measurement section of the Praxis, which makes up roughly 22.5% of the skills test. The Praxis has roughly ten questions about geometry and measurement and you'll have 75 minutes to complete all 46 multiple choice questions on the exam. You also won't be allowed to use a calculator on the Praxis.
By finishing the self-assessment quizzes, you'll have an idea of how you'll be answering questions on the actual test. The quizzes will also let you know how well you've learned the information in the lessons.
1. Properties of Right Triangles: Theorems & Proofs
In this lesson, you will learn about the properties of and theorems associated with right triangles, which have a wide range of applications in math and science. Specifically, we will discuss and prove the Pythagorean theorem and the right triangle altitude theorem. Let's get started.
2. The Pythagorean Theorem: Practice and Application
The Pythagorean theorem is one of the most famous geometric theorems. Written by the Greek mathematician Pythagoras, this theorem makes it possible to find a missing side length of a right triangle. Learn more about the famous theorem here and test your understanding with a quiz.
3. Finding Distance with the Pythagorean Theorem
How much faster is it to cut the corners in a race around the block? In this lesson, review the Pythagorean Theorem, and figure out how to solve without a right triangle.
4. List of the Basic Trig Identities
There are specific trig functions that have very special and very simple relationships with each other. Learn the main one and how you can use it to understand the others.
5. Trigonometry: Sine and Cosine
Learn an easy trick to help you solve trigonometry problems, including problems with sine, cosine and inverse trig functions. At the end of this lesson, you'll know what SohCahToa means and how to use it.
6. Trigonometry and the Pythagorean Theorem
Explore how the Pythagorean Theorem can be used in conjunction with trigonometric functions. In this lesson, take an inverse trigonometric function, and define all three sides of a right triangle.
7. How to Solve Trigonometric Equations for X
Adding trigonometric functions into standard algebra equations adds complexity. Learn how to solve trigonometric equations for x and how to use inverse operations to simplify equations.
