Ch 39: Praxis Mathematics: Asymptotes

About This Chapter

Let us teach you about asymptotes. The video lessons and self-assessment quizzes in this chapter can prepare you to answer questions about trigonometry on the Praxis Mathematics: Content Knowledge test.

Praxis Mathematics: Content Knowledge - Asymptotes: Chapter Summary

An asymptote is a line that a curve approaches, but never meets, as it heads toward infinity. Through the online videos in this chapter, you'll learn how to find vertical and horizontal asymptotes of rational functions. This is a good skill to have heading in to the Praxis Mathematics: Content Knowledge test, which could include questions about asymptotes in its section on trigonometry.

Praxis Mathematics: Content Knowledge - Asymptotes Objectives

The 2-hour Praxis Mathematics: Content Knowledge test measures your proficiency in several areas of mathematics, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus and discrete mathematics. Boards of education in many states use the Praxis to help them determine if teaching candidates are prepared for certification. This specific test is intended for prospective high school math teachers and includes 50 multiple-choice questions. An estimated eight percent of these questions have to do with trigonometry. You can opt to take the Praxis via computer or on paper.

If your skills in determining vertical and horizontal asymptotes are lacking, watch our video lessons, which are taught by experienced professional educators. Each lesson features a quiz that you can take to assess your abilities. The quizzes also can prepare you for the types of questions you're likely to see on the Praxis Mathematics: Content Knowledge test.
