SBA ELA - Grades 6-8: Modifiers - Chapter Summary

This chapter focuses on some of the trickier aspects of grammar, helping your student recognize and correct syntax and word use in small passages. Your student will find the videos to be educational and engaging and fun. They will enhance the instruction your student received in class so they can demonstrate their fullest potential during the Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA) for 6th- 8th Grade English Language Arts (ELA). The lessons in this chapter cover:

  • Definite and indefinite articles
  • Dangling and misplaced modifiers
  • Predicates
  • Gerunds
  • Clauses

Parents and teachers both can make great use of these lessons as they instruct their middle-grade students on English grammar basics for writing and editing. Each video is short, including a concise lecture by one of our expert English instructors set to fun graphics with real-life examples. Students have the option to complete the quizzes in each lesson for a self-correcting assessment of their knowledge and to become familiar with how multiple-choice questions may be asked during the SBA or other tests. Assign the chapter test as homework or have students complete it in class to measure their understanding of key concepts.
