About This Chapter
Sexually Transmitted Bacterial Diseases - Chapter Summary and Learning Objectives
Over the course of these lessons, instructors discuss the microorganisms causing three types of sexually transmitted bacterial diseases (also known as sexually transmitted infections or STIs): chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. The stages of their progression and the antibiotics used for treatment are also covered. By the end of this chapter, you should be familiar with the following:
- Different types of sexually transmitted bacterial diseases
- Sexually transmitted bacterial diseases' causes
- Symptoms of sexually transmitted bacterial diseases
- Sexually transmitted bacterial diseases' cures and treatments
|What Is Chlamydia Trachomatis? - Symptoms, Signs & Treatment||Describes chlamydia and its cause, the bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis, along with types of infections and the time frame for when symptoms become present. The lack of symptoms in some cases and treatment with antibiotics are also discussed.|
|What Is Gonorrhea? - Cause, Symptoms & Cure||Explains how gonorrhea is caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacteria and describes initial and advanced symptoms as well as types of treatment.|
|What Is Syphilis? - Causes, Symptoms & Stages||Discusses syphilis, the bacteria Treponema pallidum, and chancres. Additional symptoms appearing during the infection's four stages (primary, secondary, latent, and tertiary) are also covered.|
1. What Is Chlamydia Trachomatis? - Symptoms, Signs & Treatment
In this lesson we'll cover a very famous sexually transmitted disease known as chlamydia. You'll learn about the bacterium that causes this condition, how it's spread, what problems it causes, and how it can be treated.
2. What Is Gonorrhea? - Cause, Symptoms & Cure
This lesson will go into one of the most famous sexually transmitted diseases of all time, known as gonorrhea. We'll cover what agent causes this disease, what symptoms may occur, and how it is best avoided and treated.
