This lesson will discuss the concept of neoplasia. We'll specifically talk about the differences between benign tumors, carcinoma in situ, and malignant tumors. This lesson will also define metastasis and oncology and show examples of different types of malignant and benign tumors.
2. What Causes Cancer?
This lesson will discuss a model of cancer formation as well as some things that can cause cancer. You'll learn about initiation, promotion, and progression as well as what occurs during each step.
3. Cancer Syndromes & Genetic Risk Factors for Cancer
This lesson describes something called cancer syndrome or family cancer syndrome, as well as the important clues that can help it be detected and two examples of such a condition.
4. Cancer at the Level of the Genome
This lesson will delve into the genetic changes that may occur during cancer formation. You'll learn about proto-oncogenes, oncogenes, tumor suppressor genes, viral oncogenesis, p53, and more.
5. Tumor Suppressor Genes: Retinoblastoma Features, Genetic Cause & Treatment
In this lesson, you'll learn about retinoblastoma, which is a rare childhood cancer of the retina. Retinoblastoma is often inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion. Find out why retinoblastoma and other types of hereditary cancers are caused by dominant alleles by watching this lesson.

8. The Progression of Cancer: Grading, Staging & Diagnosis
This lesson will discuss the way by which cancer is diagnosed, graded, and staged. We'll talk about what staging and grading actually mean and how and why cancers may be high or low in grade.
9. What Are Tumor Markers? - Definition & Functions
This lesson will discuss the concept of tumor markers. You'll learn what they are, where they are found, and what they are used for. We'll also go into three specific and famous tumors markers known as PSA, CEA, and AFP.
10. The General Pathophysiology of Cancer
This lesson seeks to tell you about how cancer impacts the body in a wide variety of ways both directly and indirectly. We'll discuss things like pressure atrophy, paraneoplastic syndromes, peritonitis, and many other things.
11. The General Treatment Strategies For Cancer
This lesson will describe the three traditional methods of treating cancer. These include surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy as well as their potential uses, benefits, and side-effects. We'll also touch on other ways by which we can treat cancer.
12. Thyroid Cancer: An Example of Malignant Neoplasia
This lesson will describe the composition and function of the thyroid gland. We'll go into which hormones it produces, what they do, and how they may play a role in thyroid cancer. We'll also discuss the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid cancer.
13. What is Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF)?
Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) is an important protein that helps to create blood and lymph vessels. This unique protein can also help tumors thrive, and when used correctly, may also work in cancer treatments.
