WEST Math: Continuity of a Function - Chapter Summary

This chapter is focused exclusively on functions, particularly as they appear in graph form. We'll help get your skills up to speed with lessons on the following:

  • Continuous and discontinuous functions
  • Point, asymptotic and jump discontinuities
  • Regions
  • Graphing multi-step functions

The easy-to-follow video lessons in this chapter can help ensure you know your function graphs front to back for the WEST Math exam. Our expert math teachers make retaining the basic concepts of function continuity simple. You'll take a short quiz following completion of each lesson, and if you have any questions, you can always reach out to our teachers, they're here to help!

Objectives of the WEST Math: Continuity of a Function Chapter

The WEST Math exam is a requirement for new and current teachers in Washington State seeking a math endorsement. The test covers five fundamental domains: Mathematical processes and number sense; patterns, algebra and functions; measurement and geometry; trigonometry and calculus; and statistics, probability and discrete mathematics.

This computer-based exam includes a grand total of 150 multiple-choice questions and must be completed within four hours and 15 minutes. Roughly 24% of those 150 multiple-choice questions are devoted to patterns, algebra and functions. By working through the Study.com video lessons in this chapter, you'll be fully prepared for any questions about the continuity of functions. Keep in mind that you'll be provided with a calculator and a formula sheet at the test site.

At the conclusion of the WEST Math exam, you'll instantly receive your score report. The minimum passing score is 220. Exam registration is offered all year, and you'll sign up online. Pearson testing centers throughout the state of Washington (and the rest of the country) host the test, and you'll typically attend the one nearest you.
