Baltimore City Community College

Baltimore City Community College provides an accounting certificate program that will help graduates find entry-level employment. An Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Accounting program has courses in income tax accounting, business law and intermediate accounting.

Frederick Community College

Frederick Community College offers a 9-credit letter of recognition program in accounting. The business accounting certificate program has courses in spreadsheets, accounting, intermediate accounting and business communications. The computerized accounting certificate program focuses on software and record-keeping technology. Students in the accounting AAS program will be prepared for entry-level employment or transferring opportunities. The university also has a CPA exam qualification certificate for baccalaureate students.

Harford Community College

Located in Bel Air, this college has an accounting certificate that will prepare students for entry-level employment. Required courses include bookkeeping, accounting and computerized accounting. The AAS in Accounting program will help students understand ethical accounting practices, analyze accounting information and utilize accounting information systems. The CPA exam qualification certificate program is designed for students who have non-accounting bachelor's degrees.

Morgan State University

This university is in Baltimore, and it offers an accounting minor program. The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Accounting program will provide education on business and accounting concepts. The undergrad program also has a CPA track. The university has a Master of Professional Accountancy program with courses in accounting theory, corporate finance and business taxation. Prince George's Community College

A CPA preparation certificate program helps baccalaureate students become eligible for the CPA exam. There is also accounting certificate and letter of recognition programs that provide courses in accounting and information technology. Finally, there is an accounting/taxation letter of recognition program with courses in accounting and federal income taxes.

Salisbury University

Salisbury University has a minor program in accounting, and students will receive basic instruction on accounting principles. The BS in Accounting program provides foundational business and accounting coursework to prepare students for employment. Students are required to complete an auditing internship and a business portfolio class.

Towson University

Towson University offers a BS in Accounting. Undergrad students must take courses in accounting, auditing, business strategy and international business. They also must take 2 comprehensive exams in business and accounting. An accredited Master of Science (MS) in Accounting and Business Advisory Services program will prepare students for the CPA exam. The MS degree program can be completed during afternoons or evenings.

University of Baltimore

University of Baltimore provides a BS in Business Administration (BSBA) with a specialization in accounting. University of Maryland - Baltimore County

University of Maryland - Baltimore County has an accounting certificate program that will prepare students for CPA licensure. Students will learn about economics, business and accounting. The university also has a certificate program in management accounting. The program is designed for students who want to become eligible for the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) exam. University of Maryland - College Park

Career Requirements

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics explains that most states require Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam applicants to complete 150 college semester hours. Those who want to take the Maryland CPA exam need to have an accredited bachelor's degree and complete 120 semester hours of coursework. After passing the exam, Maryland accountants will have to complete 150 hours of coursework to receive the actual CPA license.
