This program requires 64 credit hours to complete. While students pursuing an Associate of Applied Science do not have to fulfill the SUNY General Education Requirements, the accounting program does require courses in freshman English, basic math and public speaking. Students also have to take courses in business law, economics and statistics.

Along with learning how to execute the everyday activities associated with small business accounting, future professionals are taught how to collect, analyze and summarize computer-based and other financial information. Students may also have the option to transfer to four-year accounting programs.

Morrisville State College

The Associate of Science and Associate of Applied Science in Accounting programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Associate of Applied Science in Accounting

This program is designed to prepare students for direct entry into the fields of accounting and business and includes a minimum of 15 credits of accounting coursework with the option to specialize in business management or computer information systems. Students can still transfer to a four-year program, but the school recommends that these students take elective courses outside of accounting.

Qualified graduates may be able to find work as budget, credit or cost control analysts, payroll auditors and tax examiners.

Onondaga Community College

The accounting program at Onondaga is a vocational course of study, and students who are interested in eventually pursuing a bachelor's degree in accounting should consider the Associate of Science in Business Administration.
