Accredited MCSE Certification Training Programs and Requirements

IT students and professionals interested in earning Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) credentials can participate in a training program before sitting for the required certification exams. This article outlines what to expect in such programs.

Essential Information

MCSE certification could prove beneficial for computer support specialists, network managers, database designers and other IT professionals. MSCE certification training classes are often available on-site at accredited colleges and universities, many of which have been certified as Microsoft learning partners. Courses can be offered through a school's for-credit certificate and associate degree programs in networking or computer information technology or as stand-alone courses in a professional development program.

Program specializations include desktop Infrastructure, SharePoint, communication, messaging, server infrastructure, Private Cloud, data platform and business intelligence.

A bachelor's degree in a computer related field is required, as is 1-2 years of practical experience. It is important to note that completing a training program is voluntary, and not required to take the certification exams.

Certification in MCSE

Accredited MCSE training programs teach students to consider the overall needs of their clients and use computer skills to engineer back-end solutions to fit those needs. Students take courses that cover the following topics:

  • Microsoft servers
  • Operating systems and databases
  • Design of computer and network infrastructures
  • Implementation of computer and network infrastructures
  • Maintenance of computer and network infrastructures

Continuing Education

The first three professional certification exams focus on the installation and management of Windows Server 2012 or Microsoft SQL Server 2012. The remaining two exams vary depending on candidates' chosen certification area and could focus on their ability to implement server or desktop infrastructure, configure a private cloud, develop business intelligence and database solutions, or install voice and online services for a business enterprise. Successful candidates will have to renew their MCSE credential once every three years by taking the required re-certification exams.

Although not mandatory, programs that help prepare individuals to take the MSCE certification exam are typically offered through accredited colleges and vocational schools, in conjunction with Microsoft.
