  • Eastfield College offers administrative assisting and support certificates and an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) program to the Mesquite, Garland and East Dallas communities, approximately 10 miles from the city center.

Brookhaven College

Founded in 1978, Brookhaven College is a 2-year public institution that offers transfer programs and workforce education. The office technology programs are offered through the business office systems and support division. The school also offers support professions programs through the computer information technology and business administration departments.

Business Office Specialist Certificate

In this level I certificate, students examine computer fundamentals, keyboarding and word processing. Texas Success Initiative standards are waived for this program.

Administrative Specialist Certificate

Within this 3-semester certificate, students delve into computer applications, keyboarding, administrative office procedures and desktop publishing. In addition to coursework, students complete a cooperative education experience.

AAS - Executive Assistant

Eastfield College

Founded in 1970, Eastfield College offers technical, occupational, academic and continuing education opportunities to Dallas and the surrounding communities. Business Office Specialist Certificate

The Business Office Specialist Certificate is an entry-level program that features 16-17 credits of coursework in areas like administrative office procedures, business English, records management and software applications. Students can also take elective courses on topics like spreadsheets and databases.

Administrative Specialist Certificate

The administrative specialist certificate is designed to provide office career training through three semesters of coursework. The first semester delves into computer applications and keyboarding, while the second semester includes courses in composition, spreadsheets and word processing. In the final semester, students learn to correspond with business professionals and complete a cooperative work experience in general office occupations or secretarial science.

AAS - Executive Assistant

This program covers office management, records management and business communications subjects through 60 credits of coursework. The 4-semester program also includes a general office or administrative assistant work experience requirement.

Richland College

Founded in 1972, Richland College enrolls almost 19,000 students on a 243-acre campus in Dallas, Texas. The business office systems and support department offered through the engineering, business and technology division offers certificate and degree programs in user support, office technology and personal computers.

Business Office Specialist Certificate

The Business Office Specialist Certificate is a level I certificate that doesn't require students to meet Texas Success Initiative standards. The 1-semester program offers courses in computer applications, business English and word processing. Students also have the option to complete an elective covering business communications or various computer applications.

Administrative Specialist Certificate

The Administrative Specialist Certificate is a level II certificate that includes three semesters and 45-47 credits of coursework. Students learn to handle office procedures, correspond with business professionals and use word processing software through classroom learning and cooperative education experiences.

AAS - Executive Assistant

The 4-semester, 60-credit associate degree program requires students to meet Texas Success Initiative standards to apply to the program. Through a combination of classroom instruction and cooperative education experiences, students learn to use state-of-the-art office technology to manage records, write correspondence, interact with business professionals and support a positive office environment.

Other School Options

There are two other colleges within the Dallas County Community College District that offer administration support programs: El Centro College and North Lake College. Both schools offer the executive assistant AAS program, as well as the business office specialist and administrative specialist certificate programs. El Centro College is located in Dallas, while North Lake College is located about 13.4 miles away in Irving.
