Central New Mexico Community College

Established more than four decades ago, Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) offers more than 100 programs, including three for individuals interested in HVAC training. Students who successfully complete both certificate programs and gain work experience are eligible to sit for the New Mexico Journeyman's examinations.

Residential HVAC Certificate of Completion

This certificate program takes two terms, or about one year, to complete and requires 26 credits of coursework. Students start by learning about the basics of refrigeration and practical applications for refrigeration methods. They then study the design and systems information about heating and air conditioning systems, including installation techniques.

Commercial, Industrial HVAC, & Building Performance Certificate of Completion

Designed for students looking to work within the commercial and industrial sectors of HVAC, this 53-credit certificate program can be completed in about four terms. Classes include hot water and steam generation systems, safety codes, chilled water systems, and commercial and industrial refrigeration.

Associate of Applied Science in Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Technology

This HVAC program begins with the same core courses as the certificate programs but is completed within five terms of study. Coursework includes cooling system installation, hot water systems, and green building codes; a few general education classes are required as well. The program culminates in a 150-hour internship.
