Winner: University Nevada - Reno

The University of Nevada - Reno offers bachelor's degree programs in both accounting and accounting and information systems. Both programs are 120 credits and feature core coursework in financial accounting, managerial accounting, managerial finance, operations management, and transactions law. Accounting and information systems electives include financial investigations, Internet programming, business systems development, database design, and data communications. 

The accounting master's program is 30 credits and includes coursework in taxation, international accounting, accounting research, and financial reporting theory. Students can also take electives in estate and gift taxation, corporate taxation, and not-for-profit accounting. 

Runner Up #1: Western Nevada College

The 60-credit associate program in accounting at Western Nevada College can prepare students for bookkeeping or accounting clerk careers. The curriculum covers financial and managerial accounting, accounting systems, management principles, QuickBooks, and business law. Associate-degree students may complete an optional work experience as well. Western Nevada's bookkeeping certificate program is 30-33 credits and covers many of the same core topics as the associate program. Students in both programs may take a certified bookkeeping course that prepares them for the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers certification exam. This course can also be taken on a standalone basis.

Runner Up #2: Truckee Meadows Community College

The 30-credit bookkeeping certificate program at Truckee Meadows Community College takes roughly two semesters to complete. The curriculum includes bookkeeping, payroll and employee benefit accounting, computer applications, information systems, and microcomputer accounting systems. Students become proficient in QuickBooks and Peachtree software, and they're required to complete a work experience.
