Job Duties of an Advertising Production Manager

Advertising production manager job responsibilities often deal with the company's image. Some duties include speaking with clients about effective advertising strategies, preparing budgets, sending files to clients, contacting advertisers and deciding the appropriate subject for the company. They may be in charge of directly editing media for use in ads. In larger firms, an advertising production manager coordinates and motivates a team or even an entire department to produce a creative campaign. They may work alongside an account executive, creative director or media director.

Good communication skills in both speaking and writing will also be necessary in order to convey ideas and campaigns to both the company and the ad agency. Advertising managers must also be able to work effectively in a team, have good computer skills and show decisiveness in difficult situations.

The BLS stated that advertising production managers may work long hours, and they face pressure to complete deadlines on time. Additionally, an ad manager may have to travel extensively to talk to advertising agencies, organizations and other businesses.

Salary and Employment Outlook

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) expected a 5% increase in employment for advertising and promotions managers, the larger group that includes advertising production managers, during the 2014-2024 decade. The median salary of advertising and promotions managers was $95,890, the BLS reported in May 2015.
