Coursework in Adult Education Architectural Technology Programs

Adult education programs in architectural technology study a vast assortment of technical studies. Topics include mechanical drafting, computer applications for technology, blueprint reading, AutoCAD, autodesk inventor, and mold design. Most programs require 64 to 72 credits in these areas, depending on the level off degree or diploma. Many programs offers a number of electives that will help you target particular skills such as working with technical drawings, understanding construction management, and using programs other than Auto CAD, such as SketchUp and Photoshop.

A degree in architectural drafting will prepare you for a career as an architectural draftsperson or an engineering CAD (computer-aided drafting) technician. You will learn drafting and design applications such as AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor, which are used by many different industries.

Salary Information and Job Outlook

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), reports that although salaries for drafters vary by region and industry, the mean annual salary for architectural and civil drafters was $56,700 per year in 2018.

A good adult education program in architectural drafting technology from a community college or trade or technical school will give you just the edge you need to succeed in this highly competitive field. The BLS projected jobs for drafters will experience little growth from 2018-2028.

Adults looking to start a career in architecture may learn basic drafting skills from an architectural technology program. These programs are designed to teach students the technical skills need to become a drafter, including the use of CAD software.
