In May 2018, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) predicted median annual salaries of $51,740 for advertising sales agents, $58,510 for wholesale and manufacturing sales representatives, and $47,580 for production, planning and expediting clerks. The BLS projected 2% decline for advertising sales agents, 2% growth for wholesale and manufacturing reps, and 4% growth for expediting clerks, from 2018-2028.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employers may prefer individuals who hold a bachelor's or master's degree in marketing or a related field to fill sales, marketing and promotions management positions (www.bls.gov). Some bachelor's programs allow credits earned through associate's degree programs to transfer. After pursuing a bachelor's degree, students can also earn graduate degrees at the master's and doctoral levels. Students often have the opportunity to customize their coursework to suit their specific interests and career goals. These degrees can lead to advanced positions or those in research or academic teaching.

For some businesses, an associate's degree in sales and marketing is enough for advertising sales agents, sales representatives and product planers; however, many prefer employees with a bachelors. For the most part, credits from an associate's will transfer to a bachelor's degree program.
