Online BBA degree programs with concentrations in operations management are scarce. More common are BBA programs that combine supply chain or logistics management with courses in operations management. A few programs can be completed entirely through online study, but others combine online and on-campus courses.
In these programs, students must complete general education courses, such as business writing and science, as well as courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, financial accounting and statistics. Most business major programs include courses in marketing, human resources management and communications for managers.
In an operations management concentration, courses may include supply chain logistics, project management and inventory control. A capstone project may be required, and many programs require students to complete an internship.

BBA in Operations Management
In online BBA programs with a concentration in operations management, students take required general education and business courses as well as courses in production and planning. They learn how organizations are structured, how they function and how to manage them.
Online BBA programs with a concentration in operations management are relatively rare. Students may also choose a program with an emphasis in supply chain or logistics management, as these tend to offer courses that overlap with those of an operations management major. Those who want more of an analytical focus may decide to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Operations Management or Operations Technology.
Program Information and Requirements
Students can complete an online BBA program in operations management within four years. Degree completion programs are designed for those who have earned a certain number of undergraduate credits and typically take about two years to complete. While 100% online programs are available, most BBA degrees in operations management programs are offered at least partially on-campus.
Common Operations Management Courses
Online BBA programs in operations management include general education courses and core business requirements. For a concentration in operations management, students may take courses in quality control, project management and purchasing.
In this introductory course, students analyze business processes and learn how to allocate resources and streamline efficiencies. Simulation tools are sometimes used to teach students how businesses forecast, plan and schedule to achieve maximum productivity.
Supply Chain Management
Students learn about the functions of a supply chain and how even minor disruptions can have major consequences. Students also learn about how the design of a supply chain may impact its effectiveness and how to manage the people and processes involved at each stage.
In this required core course, students learn marketing principles that apply to the manufacturing, pricing and distribution of goods and services. As a business function, marketing is often closely integrated with operations and supply chain management.
Career Information for Graduates
Graduates of online BBA programs with a concentration in operations management can work as operations, production or logistics managers for manufacturing or services firms. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that employment opportunities for logisticians, or logistics managers, were expected to grow 2% between 2014 and 2024, much faster than average for all occupations (www.bls.gov). As of May 2015, the BLS reported that the average annual salary for logisticians was $77,470.
Continuing Education Information
Students who wish to pursue graduate-level study may consider a Master of Business Administration with a focus in operations management or a Master of Science in Operations Management. Many universities offer online programs for either degree. Those who decide to further their education without earning a degree may choose to earn an online graduate certificate in operations, supply chain or logistics management.
There are multiple online and hybrid format BBA programs that focus on operations management, production and logistics. These bachelor's degree programs provide basic business training alongside general education courses so that graduates are ready for work in the field or to advance to more specialized master's degree programs in operations management.
