Employment Outlook and Salary Info

Hotel managers can be employed in conference centers, resorts, motels and a variety of hotels. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment of lodging managers is expected to see an 8% increase from 2014-2024 (www.bls.gov). This outlook was attributed to the fact that, although tourism and travel are expected to increase, new hotels are trending toward offering fewer services that require oversight. In addition, some hotel chains are choosing to have a single manager be in charge of several properties in an area. In 2015, the BLS reported that lodging managers earned a median annual salary of $49,720.

Continuing Education Information

After earning a bachelor's degree in hotel management, individuals could continue on to attain a master's degree in hospitality management. Such programs could be completed in as little as one year and may prepare students for careers as entrepreneurs, restaurateurs, consultants and developers. Master's degree courses could focus on the global economy, technology and event management. Some schools also offer graduate certificates in hospitality management.
