Many top schools offer medical technology programs. These programs are usually available at the associate's or bachelor's degree levels, although some schools offer master's degree programs. Among the schools in the nation with medical technology programs, the University of Washington, Arkansas State University, and Ohio State University are top choices. All three institutions have bachelor's degree opportunities and Ohio State University also has a master's degree. These schools were ranked among the best in the nation by U.S. News and World Report.

University of Washington

According to the U.S. News & World Report evaluation of medical programs in 2016, the University of Washington ranked first in primary care and eighth in research.

Through its medical school, the University of Washington in Seattle offers a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology. The medical technology (MT) program takes four years and is divided into two halves; the first is the pre-professional phase, which consists of prerequisites and general education classes required by the university. Once students complete the required coursework, they are admitted into the professional phase where they will gain experience in one of the fourteen clinical laboratories with which the university is affiliated.

Ohio State University

Ohio State University was ranked 33rd in medical research by U.S. News & World Report. Located in Columbus, Ohio, the university's College of Medicine offers both a bachelor's and master's program in medical technology.

Undergraduate students who enroll in the medical laboratory scientists program receive a Bachelor of Science in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences upon completion. Students will take a number of courses including medical laboratory microscopy and medical laboratory hermatology. Students wishing to pursue a Master of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences will follow a 3-year program resulting in both certification eligibility and a master's degree.

Arkansas State University

Arkansas State University in Jonesborough, Arkansas, is ranked number 20 on U.S. News and World Report's list of the best public schools in the South. Students can earn a Bachelor of Science or an Associate of Applied Science in Clinical Laboratory Sciences. The programs are accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences. Students are required to participate in clinical rotations at laboratories.
