Winner: MIT Physics Department
'(MIT Physics OCW) is well structured and the support needed no videos.' -Fernando Júnio Couto
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or MIT, has been a major proponent of OCW for a long time. That commitment to OER is made especially clear in the offerings from their Department of Physics. In total, MIT's OCW hosts 71 courses on the subject, split into 38 undergraduate courses and 33 graduate ones, covering areas like astrophysics, quantum theory and relativity. The courses archive a large chunk of science education at MIT, stretching back to the Fall 1999 semester and at present working up to the Fall 2010 term. Each course offers its students a variety of resources, from lecture notes to image galleries to assignments and exams complete with answers. A few courses even support online study groups, where learners all taking the same class can connect to share their questions and discoveries
For learners looking for the fullest OCW experience, MIT has marked several of their courses with the 'OCW Scholar' designation. According to MIT's website, those courses are 'more complete than typical' and feature new 'custom-created content' plus 'materials repurposed from previously published courses.' In other words, OCW users can come the closest to replicating a full-semester experience with these classes. MIT's Department of Physics currently offers 'OCW Scholar' courses in Physics I (Classical Mechanics) and Physics II (Electricity and Magnetism).
