Students in a 2-year Associate of Science in Biomedical Equipment Technology program may start out by learning the same basic technical skills as traditional equipment repairers and maintenance technicians. Continuing Education Options
The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) offers a few different certification options for biomedical equipment technicians. It offers a Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) designation for individuals who offer general medical equipment repair services, as well as a Certified Radiology Equipment Specialist (CRES) designation for technicians who specialize in repairing radiology equipment. Certification is recommended, but not required, in the field.
