Salary Information for Cartoonists

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), average yearly income for animators and multi-media artists was $72,200 in May 2016.

Although many newspapers rely on freelance cartoonists, the growth of online cartoons has created many opportunities for talented animators to publish their images and cartoons on the Internet. Multi-media artists and cartoonists may also find opportunities in the exploding field of video game production and 3D animated movies. Cartoonists who develop web programming skills will be in high demand in website development and computer graphic adaptations. The BLS predicts multimedia artists and animators will have a projected job growth of 6%, from 2014-2024.

Cartooning programs for adult learners can provide an entryway into positions online and with companies that are looking for graphic designs, multimedia commercials and editorial cartooning. Some schools offer online courses but many are in-class to provide a hands-on experience in color, design and technique.
