Child Care Director Certification and Certificate Program Summaries

A certificate program in childcare administration provides students with the training and knowledge necessary to supervise early childhood programs. Students learn the various responsibilities of childcare directors, managers and supervisors.

Essential Information

Students enrolled in a childcare administrator certificate program learn how to design and maintain programs that are suitable for school-aged children. They determine the needs of children living in particular communities, as well as how to communicate with parents and caregivers. Other topics of study include staffing, facilities management, scheduling and record-keeping, financial management and determining budgets. Students may also learn about fitness, enrichment, and youth programs.

Though prerequisites vary, an undergraduate degree in education, and possibly a teaching license, may be required for entry into these programs. National certification is also available from several organizations.
