Comic Animation Courses

Drawing for Animation Course

This course focuses on drawing techniques employed in sequential animation. Students learn how to animate expressions, anatomical character movements and actions by studying layout, timing and body language. The curriculum emphasizes storyboard and character development during the process of animation. Students learn to animate basic defining character gestures and develop more complex range of movements and emotions. The studio component requires students to complete a short animation for their final project.

Digital Animation Course

This course covers a variety of 2-D digital animation and composite techniques that utilize green screen production technology. Students gain knowledge of 2D and 3D space, motion tracking, lighting and timeline effects. An opportunity is also available to learn how to utilize professional editing software programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects and Flash. The course also offers students a chance to digitize their own hand-drawn animation with a soundtrack.

Storyboards for Animation Course

This course introduces students to storyboard development techniques by expanding on various writing techniques and scripting software. Students explore a variety of storytelling techniques, character development and composition methods, such as perspective and drawing style. This teaches students to compare and discuss effective visual storytelling and storyboarding. Students in the course also learn to write, develop and integrate the script into storyboarding software.

Introduction to Final Cut Pro Course

This course covers basic methods for editing 2-D video and audio material using Apple Final Cut Pro software. Students in this course learn techniques for animation and special digital effects through a series of assignments that emphasize continuity, rhythm and pace in narrative structure. Topics include setup procedures, filters, preferences, ripple, slide, and various other finishing and editing techniques for audio and visual editing.

Introduction to Computer Animation Course

This course introduces students to advanced 3-D computer animation programs such as XSI, 3D-Studio Max and Maya. Topics in the course explore basic animation techniques in modeling and 3-D animation, which includes advanced articulation, texture mapping, lighting and rendering techniques.
