Essential Information

Only a handful of schools offer master's programs in consciousness studies. These programs explore the relationship between belief systems, human consciousness and cultural traditions throughout the world. In addition to the core curriculum, programs may offer specializations in East-West philosophy and religion, science and consciousness, or dream studies. Some programs require students to complete a thesis or integrative project. Graduates may be prepared for work as life coaches, community college teachers or researchers.

However, graduates should note that most postsecondary teachers have at least a Ph.D.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) estimates that job growth for all postsecondary teachers will grow 13% for the years 2014 through 2024. The BLS also reported in 2015 that philosophy and religion postsecondary teachers (which may include consciousness studies) earned $66,380 as a median annual wage.
