Orientation to Cosmetology Instructor Course

In this course, students survey the basics of educational theory and teaching methods. They learn about the importance of accurate record-keeping and lesson-planning. Additionally, they are expected to develop a professional image and learn effective teacher-learner communication skills.

Beginning Cosmetology Instructor Course

In this course, students develop an understanding of teaching principles and how they can be used in cosmetology instruction. In a lab setting, they practice demonstrating the cosmetology skills they will teach to entry-level cosmetology students, including hair design and nail treatments. Topics emphasize the importance of good listening skills and using positive feedback to help motivate learners.

Intermediate Cosmetology Instructor Course

While continuing to practice demonstration of hair and nail techniques, students also learn instructional tasks. They must gain proficiency in curriculum- and lesson-planning, as well as in how to evaluate student performance and keep accurate records. At this stage of their education, cosmetology instructor students also look at professional standards and ethics in teaching.

Advanced Cosmetology Instructor Course

In the last section of a cosmetology instructor program, participants refine their lecture and demonstration techniques while focusing on how to teach advanced-level cosmetology techniques for hair and nails. They delve more deeply into an analysis of testing methods and how best to measure knowledge. Learning styles are examined and compared, along with the teaching approaches that are suitable for each.
