Founded in 1968, Hillsborough Community College is accredited by the Commission of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. On-campus computer labs have Visio Professional 2007 and SQL Server 2005 software. As of 2013, the college has a student population of nearly 27,000.
The school offers an Associate of Applied Science in Database Technology with Concentrations in Microsoft Certified Database Administrator, Microsoft Certified Solution Development, Oracle Certified Database and Oracle Certified Database Developer.
The Database Administrator concentration is a 63-credit program, where students learn to configure, design and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases. The Solution Development concentration helps students learn how to repair and create department-level components and applications using Microsoft tools and technologies. The Oracle Certified Database Developer option includes core database technology coursework.
Students can also receive an Associate in Science and Associate in Applied Science in Computer Programming. Programming languages in computer programming are learned, including Java, COBOL and C. Students are also introduced to XML Visual Basic, management information systems and UNIX. At the end of the program, a capstone project must be completed.
